Lake Wanaka.

Lake Wanaka and the famous WanakaTree.

The lonesome Tree is situated in the Beautiful town of Wanaka, on the South Island of New Zealand. l have always said to my wife that if we had the opportunity to live in New Zealand than Wanaka would be the place that l would love to settle in.

The surroundings are just perfect, with mountainous views surrounding the lake and poplar trees that litter the shores and landscape with the most vibrant coloured autumn leaves, snow capped mountains to compliment the scenery, on the very clear and still mornings the lake has the most amazing reflections of colour and light.

The Town of Wanaka has great bars and restaurants to visit, including bakeries and lots of gift shops.

A must see when you visit New Zealand and the South Island.

Moeraki Boulders (Kaihinaki).

The Moeraki Boulders are situated at Koekohe Beach which is on the Otago Coast in the South Island of New Zealand. 1 hour drive up the eastern coast from Dunedin, the enigmatic Boulders are a ‘must see’ attraction.

The huge Boulders lay scattered along the beach, which is a protected scientific reserve. The Boulders are striking to look at with their unusually large size and bimodel shape, their sizes ranging from 1.0 to 3.0 metres and weighing up to several tons.

Up to 50 Boulders can be seen on the beach, with the largest Boulder weighing up to 7 tonnes. Taking around 4 million years to form their current size. Over the years many of the smaller Boulders have been taken for souvenirs.

Unfortunately due to my schedule, 1 night was all the time l was able to spend there, an evening shoot and morning shoot, which produced great results. I will be heading back to the South Island next year in Autumn and planning to spend a few more nights at the Moeraki Boulders.

In The Moment.

Here l am pictured with one of my most popular subjects. The Wanaka tree, Lake Wanaka, South Island, New Zealand.

It’s a habit of mine, to get in close with my subject matter, l have a need to feel the water around me, to almost ‘touch’ what l am photographing, not just a bystander on the sideline. Ever since l can remember, any sport or activity, l felt the need to be inside the arena, not watching it as a bystander or supporter.
l guess it’s got to do with being passionate about yourself and your endeavours, immersing yourself into the realms of the known and the unknown.

“IF YOU BUILD IT, THEY WILL COME”.

Thanks to Rob Featonby for the photo.

Lady In Red.

A slightly different take on my award winning Lake Wanaka image, a wider perspective fills the frame with the weeping branch of the tree. Possibly one of the best from this location.

A Family Of Trees.

l am surrounded by the ones l love, they dance around me and tell me secrets of years gone by, their voices flow with the wind, even the birds and wildlife join in, singing hymns that where written generations ago, l am carried away, into the unknown realms of a place that has captured my heart, and now my spirit is free. You are welcome to join us.
